Process Analysis
Identifying who does what. Sounds easy, but within a business there are a lot of people and a lot of processes. Each process itself can be made up of many processes.
Against each process the data they use is also identified. A network of inter-dependancy soon builds.
Sometimes data that is never used is identified, the wrong data being used, and so on.
By understanding the flow of data, where and how it is processed, querries can be address to the correct team, the concequences of change are obvious, the knowledge held in a few people's heads is unlocked.
